FOOD COMBINATIONS


 

FRUIT 

It is best to eat fruit alone as it is the easiest food to digest and if mixed with other foods the digestive fire is diminished for heavier foods. 

Especially with:-

a) Bananas mixed with milk or corn

b) Apples with cheese

c) Mangos with cheese, yoghurt or cucumber

d) Citrus fruit with milk, yoghurt, cucumbers and tomatoes

e) Melon should not be mixed with other fruit or with grains. fried foods, dairy products, or starchy foods



MILK AND DAIRY PRODUCTS 

Boiling milk makes it more digestible and should be done for vata aggravation, children older people and in sickness. 

Do not mix with:-

a) Fish and meat - sauces made with milk are not recommended. 

b) Sour fruit, cherries, melon

c) Fermented foods such as yoghurt, yeasted bread, 

d) Khichardi 



STARCHES - such as spaghetti and rice - except tapioca.

Do not mix with:- 

a) Eggs, dates, fruit, dates, dairy, persimmons, chai



HONEY

Always take raw honey and do not boil or cook into food. A little in off-the-boil water is OK. When cooked honey becomes a glue-like substance which becomes a toxin and sticks to mucus membranes and clogs the channels. 

Do not mix with:- 

a) Ghee



NIGHTSHADES - tomatoes, peppers, egg plant, potatoes, goji berries. Should be avoided. many people cannot digest them.

Do not mix with:-

a) Cucumber, melon, milk or yoghurt. 



EGGS 

Two proteins should not be eaten together 

Do not mix eggs with:-

a) Milk, meat, bananas, yoghurt, melon, cheese, fish


 

CORN

Do not mix with:-

a) Dates, Raisins, Bananas



DIGESTIVE SPICES ARE:- 

Fennel, Cumin, Coriander, Salt, Turmeric, Garlic, Ginger, Pepper


 

IRON RICH FOODS ARE:-

Beetroot, raisins, whole wheat, molasses, black-strap molasses, jaggery 



CALMING SPICES ARE:-

Cardamon, Cinnamon, Saffron, Nutmeg 



WATER:-

Take 2-3 cups of hot water in the morning. A little hot water can be sipped during meals. No iced water. Kapha people should eat when hungry , drink when thirsty. 

12) The stomach is the size of the fist. Fill 1/3 food, 1/3 water 1/3 for food to move around.
